Have you ever watched a movie that left you wondering why several characters look alike? Talents run in the family, and chances are they have a blood relationship, parent-child. Having a parent as an actor is the surest and easiest way to appear in a movie, and a gateway enters Hollywood.

Some of your favourite movies have featured children and their parents. All they need to do is hang out with their parents and get a casting role. It’s a common practice for many celebrated actors who want to nurture their children to emulate them.

Celeb child-parent working together for a movie are common practices like in Angeline Jolie and Jon Voight, who appeared in Tomb Raider, a Lara Croft movie.

Here are some of the films with parents teaming up with their actual children.

Angelina Jolie & Jon Voight (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 2001)

Jon Voight, a screen legend, worked alongside her A-List daughter Angeline Joe in the Tomb Raider movie. Besides making the film entertaining, it also became interesting to watch, and a rewatch is obvious.

Lara Craft, known for her video game adventures, comes live on the screen to recover ancient power aircraft in villains’ hands. It’s a race between time as she works towards getting complete control of the machines.

Angeline Jolie will later team up with Vivienne Jolie-Pitt and cast her daughter in the Maleficent film.

Will & Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness 2006)

If you feel teary while watching the movie, don’t worry since your reward awaits you. It’s a sad, emotional, depressing film in which Will Smith and his son (Jaden, who was eight years then) put an impeccable performance.

Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a salesman who is struggling to build his future in pursuit to give his son the best life. Linda (Thandie Newton) runs away from him, leaving the two, thus, leaving Chris to raise Christopher (Jaden Smith) alone. He has no job, but his determination gets him an unpaid internship in a competitive stockbroker program.

Chris is among the twenty interns and the only one who passes the cut. His joblessness and unpaid internship status leave him without a coin to sustain them. They receive an eviction notice for their apartment. Father and son find solace sleeping behind the locked doors of a metro station bathroom, sleeping in the streets and homeless shelters for survival.

With resilience and dedication, Chris becomes a wall street legend and gives his son a happy life.

Martin Sheen and Charlie Sheen (Wall Street 1987)

Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) plays an ambitious young stockbroker who wants to impress Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). He will use unethical routes to gain success and also make Gordon happy. Carl (Martin Sheen), Bud’s father, works at an airline, and he is a union leader and works in the financial department.

Wall Street is a film of family versus their ambitious careers. It focuses on the ethics found in blue-collar vs white-collar business and family talents.

Michael Landon and Michael Landon, Jr.

Michael Jr is the seventh son of the 70’s star Michael Landon who featured together in a drama that shows a boy struggling to come to terms with the parent divorce. John Schneider (Michael Landon has adopted weird behaviors and sleep around with women, and his son has no control of his changing behaviors.

Michael Jr. happen to be the son of Landon’s second wife (Lynn Noe

Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer (Ricki and the Flash)

Meryl Streep can sing. Ricki and Flash reflect on a runaway mother (Linda) who wants to reconnect with her family. Linda (Meryl Streep) receives a call from his ex-husband Pete that their daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer) has an issue. Julie is unable to come to terms that her husband has dumped her. She can’t get out of pyjamas.

Linda has no choice but to go back home to seek a reunion. It’s an emotional and sympathetic film to watch as mother and daughter takes to the screen.

Ryan & Tatum O’Neal (Paper Moon 1973)

Tatum O’Neal had no acting experience when she first appeared in the Paper Moon. But she took after her father and bagged home Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress when she was ten. It’s a one of kind movie shot in black and white.

During the depression era, Moses Pray (Ryan) attends a funeral of a woman friend whose daughter, Addie (Tatum), is left all alone. He promises to take her to St Joseph, Mo, for money. Moses works for Kansas Bible Company, where he dishonestly sells the Bible for profit.

Addie learns the art as the two travel from one place to another to make money. Father and daughter make a good feature in the movie.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Blythe Danner (Sylvia)

Gwyneth Paltrow starred in Sylvia film at a time she had already made a big name in Hollywood. She acted alongside her mom as Sylvia Plath while telling a story of her and fellow poet, Ted Hughes (Daniel Craig). Her real mom, Blythe, played Sylvia’s mother, Aurelia.

Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino (The Banger Sisters)

Mother-daughter bonds more as Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino appeared on the screen for ‘The Banger Sisters.’ It’s a movie about Sarandon and Goldie Hawn, who are best friends who have ever met for the last twenty years ago. The two friends went separate ways and have soon set for reconnection. Eva Amurri Martino took the role of her daughter and s acting to date.

Being a cast in a movie is not easy and, at times, requires you to be connected. But when you have a father or a mother who acts, it becomes easy. Some kids tend to be camera shy, but for the bold ones, it’s time they shine.

Getting a role in the movie will be easier if you have someone to tag along with. Celebrities who have featured in movies with their kids won’t stop soon, with some appearing together in multiple films. And the list keeps on growing daily.
